Concrete pump rationalises pre-cast parts production

Manufacturers of pre-cast concrete parts are often faced with the problem of how to offer cost-effective production even for small volumes of concrete. This is an issue, for example, in the production of precast parts for shafts for rainwater and sewage drain systems. The pre-cast concrete parts for this application are required in a variety of diameters and connecting angles and in a range of vertical inclines. However, there are solutions that are worth a closer look.

Tunnel concreting train for building the slab track in the city tunnel of Malmö / Sweden

A slab track is being laid in the tunnel section with two individual six km tunnels. The sleepers are embedded in concrete and can absorb the vibration caused by high-speed trains in a better way due to having an extremely flexible insert. Maximum precision is required when the tracks are installed. The sleeper shoes that have been freshly embedded in the concrete must not be subjected to vibration. Even the slightest variations in the alignment of the tracks can result in the railway no longer complying with the original designs for high-speed travel.DOWNLOAD ARTICLE

Lock Lauenburg: Concrete delivery through two 700 m long pump lines, plus safe line cleaning

The Elbe-Lübeck canal (ELK) is a 67 km long federal waterway and a major means of transport between the Baltic and the network of European inland waterways. As the structural safety of the locks along the length of the canal can no longer be sufficiently guaranteed , e.g. in Lauenburg, the most westerly of the total of seven ELK locks, is to be replaced with a new one. The joint suppliers for the replacement of the Lauenburg lock (Wunder Kiestransporte GmbH & Co. KG and neuland beton H. Burgis KG [GmbH & Co.]) have
been commissioned by ARGE, the successful bidder, with the concrete production, installation of pump lines and the concrete delivery – a technically time-consuming and costly task over a distance of almost 700 m. Two sound-proofed Putzmeister BSA stationary pumps and a modern M 52 long reach boom truck-mounted concrete pump from Pump Service betonlift Hamburg will be handling the concrete delivery and placement process. Railway connection for Tibet - concrete pumps operates at 5,000 m altitude

Plans for the construction of a railway line in western China to Tibet were supported by Chinese politicians like Mao Ze Dong and Chou En Lai as early as 40 years ago. Since then the first segment of the Qinghai-Tibet railway line, 846 km long between Xining and Golmud (constructed 1958 - 1979), has been in operation for a long time. Further construction on the mammoth project was repeatedly interrupted during the 60s and 70s due to railway worker health problems, technical problems caused by permafrost and financial constraints. Construction of the remaining stretch of line, between Golmud and Lhasa, has now been resumed from both ends since June of 2001. Since more than 85 % of the route lies within an altitude range of between 4,000 and almost 5,100 m, the hardships imposed on men and machines are unbelievable. Even a PM truck-mounted concrete pump, type BSF 36.09, is keeping pace at heights of 5,000 m.DOWNLOAD ARTICLE

Extensive concreting for a complex bridge construction

Currently under construction in Japan is the so-called Second Tomei Expressway, urgently needed to deal with the high volume of traffic between Tokio and Nagoya. The new motorway project also involves the consruction of an 820 m long motorway bridge to span the Yahagigawa River - a task which is worth several entries in the Guinness Book of Records! TELEBELT® delivers and places lean concrete

The construction of dams for the safe supply of water to the population and for agriculture is a tradition in many countries. In Ethiopia, where water supplies are relatively
plentiful, the construction of simple dams and surround of small lakes has been carried out by the state authorities since 1895. However, the dams constructed must be solid and a large quantity of concrete is required to ensure that large reserves of water accumulate. In view of the large quantities of material required, it is easy to understand that the building materials used must be as inexpensive as possible and also adapted to the conditions. This means that less cement (also to minimise the build-up of hydration
heat) and only a low proportion of sand and fine aggregate must be used – but with a considerable amount of oversized grain. As concrete pumps are not suitable for these extremely lean mixes, Putzmeister offers an alternative delivery system as part of its range.

Long-stroke concrete pumps 5 day non-stop operation

To improve the supply of drinking water for the 18 million inhabitants of New York, an approximately 100 km (62 mile) long drinking water gallery system is being built at present 165 m (550 ft) below the city. The management of works used 2 long-stroke Putzmeister concrete pumps of the BSA 2110 HD-E series on one section to concrete the tunnel formwork.

In addition two large Putzmeister Jumbo concrete mixer troughs have been installed. These served as in-line mixers and “buffer” for the concrete that is supplied batchwise and this makes continuous placing of concrete possible in a 3-shift operation, 5 days a week, “nonstop”.

432 m highrise concrete pumping in Estangente-Sallente

With 432 m pumping height the old Putzmeister world record of 340 m set in 1978 in the Gotthard Tunnel was exceeded by nearly 100 m. In the meantime Putzmeister concrete pumps have achieved over 300 m at several sites. The machine technique first applied in 1977 during Frankfurt world record has proven itself again and again. Lon stroke pumps with the largest possible stroke volume have proven to be very reliable and economical. Fewer piston change-overs at 80-100 bar delivery pressure reduce the wear on all parts, especially on delivery line fixtures. Up to now Putzmeisters’ highest achievements have not yet been beaten.DOWNLOAD ARTICLE

300 m High Rise Pumping Montezic Pumped Storage Power Station

In 1980 a pumped storage power station was built near Rodez in the French Massif Central.

Two pressure shafts each with 5.3 m Ø and 41 % incline were to be concreted. A Putzmeister Elephant Pump BRA 1403 HE was used to pump to a height of 300 m. For logistic reasons the remaining 60 m were conveyed from the top by fall delivery.

310 Metre Concrete Pumping World Record Set at Frankfurt PostOffice Tower

One decisive measure of a concrete pump is its ability to meet the demands of high-rise concrete placing, an exemplary demonstration of which was given by a PUTZMEISTER Elephant concrete pump when it wellsurpassed all existing records at the Post Office Tower in Frankfurt. The performance given by the PM Elephant trunk transfer tube and superior oil-hydraulic system has now convinced the few remaining sceptics of the extraordinary capabilities of these pumps.DOWNLOAD ARTICLE
